Dr. James Shapleigh在Clemson University微生物學系獲得學士學位,University of Georgia微生物系獲得博士學位🤦🏿♂️。主要從事微生物反硝化過程,即氮氧化物呼吸過程研究👸🏽,尤其在環境改變或脅迫下反硝化微生物生理生態應對策略方面的研究頗具特色🧑🏫。截止目前,已在PNAS, J. Bacteriology, Environ. Microbiol. 等期刊發表論文60余篇。

報告內容摘要:
Human intervention has doubled the amount of reactive nitrogen added to soils in the last hundred years. This has seriously disrupted the biogeochemical flow of nitrogen leading to serious pollution problems such as eutrophication of freshwater and marine ecosystems, contamination of nitrate in drinking water and increased greenhouse gas production. An important means of removing reactive nitrogen species is denitrification but much is uncertain about how microbial communities in soil respond to changes in nitrate and other environmental factors. In this seminar I will describe our recent work studying what environmental factors determine the type and distribution of denitrification genes in soils and how this informs our understanding of nitrogen biogeochemistry.
